i like this semester.
and i like the kind of snow that's happening right now.
it's eyelash snow and it's lovely and even though i am quite sleepy, it's the kind of snow i want to walk around in.

back to some reading for classes that i do not hate... :-)

[music |aqualung]

here is something i really like:
when i have a craving to listen to a certain song and i am about to buy it on iTunes and then i find that someone in my building has it on their shared music and i can listen to it for free! and if i can't get enough, then i can buy it.

thank you person who has enabled me to listen to "strange & beautiful" by aqualung.
quality song.

apparantly i also like embarasing myself.
why else would i dress up as hannah montana and lip sync "this is the life" for a bunch of middle-schoolers?

This journal entry is dedicated to "Dying to Belong" [Nov. 25th, 2006|12:23 am]
I was very much looking forward to watching television over this mini-break (the tv in my room at school hasn't been hooked up all semester).
Thankfully, the boob tube did not dissapoint.
Thus far, the television highlight has been the Lifetime movie Dying to Belong. Therefore, I dedicate this entire entry to said film.

Here are the reasons why it was so great:
1) The Cast
It starred Oscar-winner Hilary Swank, Jenna von Oy (Six from Blossom), Sarah Chalke (Dr. Elliot Reid from Scrubs), and ZACH MORRIS ( or Mark-Paul Gosselaar) as a roving college newspaper reporter named Steven Tyler.
2) The Soundtrack
Alright, I don't remember that much of the soundtrack, but EVERY time Hilary and Zach Morris had some kind of romantic interaction, "Damn, I Wish I Were Your Lover" by Sophie B. Hawkins played. There are thirteen minutes left in the movie as I write this, and I have heard it three times.
3) Exciting Description
I'm not going to lie, I set a reminder for the movie based solely on the amazing description. Here is what it said, "A fraternity pledge investigates a hazing incident that lead to a friend's death. Hilary Swank, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Jenna von Oy, Tracy Middendorf." THE Tracy Middendorf?!?! Wow... Okay, so maybe it was the fact that it was on Lifetime and the incredible cast (yet, again) that sealed the deal for me. Also, the fact that they had one sentance to sum up the entire movie and they got it wrong, is pretty incredible. It wasn't a fraternity, it was a sorority! HUGE difference.
4) Cliches and Stereotypes
Let's see... we has secret sorority ceremonies (sealed with blood), corruption on the inside, nosy and idealistic student reporters, sketchy frat boys with a perfect kidnap-sized van, and many, many more.
5) User Feedback on IMDB
Here are some sample quotes for your enjoyment.
"... based on daily life at a college campus."
"the whole family can enjoy it."
"It keeps you guessing from start to finish." OR "Throughout, Most of the film you kind of know whats gonna happen even before it happens"
"I found it helpful as I was on my way to college when I first viewed this film."
"I'll pick this movie over any football game!"
"This was as much like my college as Saved By the Bell was like my high school."
I couldn't pick a favorite quote from this review so here is the whole thing:
" Oh my gosh, all I have to say about this film, even though it had a suprisingly good and thrilling plot for a tv movie, is how gorgeous does Mark-Paul Gosselaar (a.k.a. Zack Morris from the teen tv show 'Saved By The Bell'-the original and best!) look?????!!!!! Phwoar!!!! I'd watch this again and again just to see him wearing those glasses even if it had been a bad film. He looks much better with dark hair (although I did still have a crush on him years ago as the blonde 'Tom Cruise' Zack Morris!!). But honestly, it's actually quite good and definitely worth watching even if you don't want to gaze at the lovely Mark-Paul!!!!!!!!!!

Don't be put off and leave it too long; you'll regret it if you don't watch 'Dying To Belong'!!!!!!! (sorry I know that's really cheesy but I couldn't resist!!!) jill-70 :-)"

I could go on, but you should probably just watch it for your self.

Also, every time I watch "Sex and the City" I detest Carrie Bradshaw a little bit more.

things are much better.
once i get through this semester, i can actually take classes that are not pointless. yay!
video production with bob white (fun, woohoo)! visual communications with ellen grabiner (my sweet advisor, woohoo)! media, messages, and society (required, woohoo)! communications technologies (or intro to pr/marcomm, if i get unwaitlisted, woohoo)!

besides school, everything is pretty great.
take this week for example:
i saved over nine dollars (!!) with my stop and shop card while grocery shopping to make dinner for my small group on wednesday.
heartbreak heidi ate a lot of spinach at b.good and got us free drunken elvis milkshakes (peanut butter, banana, chocolate).
patty and i went to shaws just to critique cereal and have started a laundry and movie night tradition on thursdays.
we celebrated meredith's birth because she's wonderful, even if applebee's weird fruity drinks are not.
last night it was too overcast to see the meteor shower, even from the park on top of summit ave, but brandon, mike, rene, and i tried. no meteors, but we got to play on the swings.

[music |the apprentice- an american portrait]

hopefully, this is the last all nighter that i will ever pull.
school is preventing me from living life intentionally.
before the end of the year, i am going to write something i am proud of.
(this isn't it)

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
-Jesus (in Matthew 11:28-30)

october tenth [Oct. 10th, 2006|10:49 pm]
I think it's important for me to remember how much I value the simple pleasures in life.
Example: Today I bought a pomegranate for $2.50 and an apple for $.25. I hated the pomegranate and the apple was probably the best apple I have ever had.

Being in New York makes me appreciate Boston more. Although I had a lot of fun and some amazing dining experiences this weekend, I did not enjoy the smell, the chaos of Times Square, or the $2.00 subway rides. Boston feels safer and more manageable to me. I especially appreciate being able to walk everywhere.

A new Robert Frost poem was discovered by a graduate student at the University of Virginia recently. It's called "War Thoughts at Home" and it's wonderful. It was found written inside the flyleaf of a copy of North of Boston. I don't know if it's wonderful because it just is, or because it has the added intrigue of being a new discovery. Professor Wollman shared the poem with me when I ran into him in the English office last week. I think being a part of his excitement added to the appeal of the poem. It's like we're all in on a little secret now. I visted Robert Frost's farm in New Hampshire with a writing camp when I was younger. It was beautiful and exciting to see Hyla Brook and the mending wall and other poetry inspirers. I would love to go again someday soon.

sad (?) dream [Sep. 11th, 2006|11:10 am]
Have you ever had a dream so bad that you woke up in tears? That’s what happened to me this morning, sort of. The dream wasn’t horrible. It was kind of goofy actually. Still, something in it broke my heart enough that I woke myself up with big, fat, crocodile tears. I actually had two dreams just this morning. I know it was this morning, because when my alarm went off at eight, I hit snooze every time it went off for the next forty-five minutes, until I realized I should just sleep in and I re-set my alarm for ten.

In my second dream, I had to go to Best Buy to run errands for someone. For some reason, I had a miniature bottle of Tide and a carpet steamer with me and my hands were very full. I went to Best Buy looking for more laundry detergent and I was paranoid that they would think I stole the Tide and carpet steamer I had already brought. Since my hands were so full, a piece of the steamer fell off when I bumped into something. I was frustrated (they didn’t have detergent!) and I needed to go to the bathroom, so I just left the piece and went. When I came back, the piece had moved to the ground by the security station. I went over to pick it up, and noticed my picture was in freeze-frame on the security television with words like “warning” or “wanted.” I figured that thought I had stolen, just as I had suspected. A security guard was yelling at me to put down the piece of the steamer. I think they thought I was trying to plant a bomb. They said they were calling the police. I had to wait and I was surrounded by screaming teens. The store employees were nice to me, but the manager lady was a jerk. I said that to the employees and they laughed and agreed with me. We thought it was ridiculous that they would suspect a sweet twenty-year-old woman running errands for her grandma. I wasn’t really running errands for my grandma though; I don’t remember for whom. The police finally came and I realized that I knew some of them. I yelled out their names and was crying and screaming “Help Me! Help Me!” I reminded them of good times we had, and begged for mercy. The people in the store put me on a bench on wheels and made me roll through a sea of police officers with Billy clubs. Time slowed down, and melancholy poignant music played. The cops and I looked at each other with sad eyes, and most of them just hit the bench to make it look like they were hitting me. That was when I was crying so much that I woke myself up.

Weird.

It did remind me that I really want to see this movie though: http://community.livejournal.com/scienceofsleep/
